Carla Cioffi is a photographer who blends documentary and fine art aesthetics in her work. She was born in Caracas, Venezuela to a Sicilian father and an American mother. Through her mother, an amateur photographer, she became entranced by the medium. At 14, she was given a Kodak Instamatic camera and set off documenting the world around her. She has been making pictures in one way or another ever since.
Given her international background and her love of travel, Carla has lived and worked in a number of diverse places including Brazil, Taiwan, Hong Kong, El Salvador, Russia, Kazakhstan, United Arab Emirates, China and Qatar.

Her documentary and reportage work has been distributed worldwide through news and photo agencies such as the AP, AFP, Reuters, National Geographic online, Getty Images and has been recently featured on social media by LensCulture, Photograph Magazine and The American Collective. She is the first American woman to photograph astronauts launching to the ISS from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, and remains the only American women to photograph astronauts returning to earth from the open door of a Russian military MI-8 helicopter.
