Scottish Grave MarkerThis smiley face gravestone is located on the grounds of Restenneth Priory in Forfar, Scotland. There is little information about this Priory and even less about this gravestone. They know the foundation stones of the tower date back to the Pictish times. I’m more interested in why someone chose to carve a smiley face onto the rock of this gravestone. It’s curious and quirky and a sweet way to honor your departed loved one. We may never know the history and story behind it and who might be buried there. For me, it was the most interesting spot in the Priory.

This image was made with a Mamiya 7, an analog medium-format camera, therefore the aspect ratio is slightly different.
